I love trains. I never actually realized just how much I loved trains until I started traveling. My strongest memory is from when I was 19 and starting my first big adventure with a girl I had only known for 3 weeks. We were in India, it was about 10 at night and we were catching a train from Kerala to Goa. Since we got there last minute we were given two tickets in the sleeper class, for about 2 dollars each. I was terrified and mesmerised and remember it like it was yesterday. Climbing up on the top of the three beds, getting in my sleeping bag and using my backpack as a pillow. It was dark, warm, humid, without there was no glass on the windows, and there I was.
I think some fragments of that journey come back every time I get on a train now and maybe that’s why I love it so much. This, however was just a 4 hour ride from Paris to Bordeaux. The 5am train to be exact, which in hindsight might not be the best option if you're a girl traveling alone on a budget and staying on the other side of Paris. The metro system was not so much fun at 4.30 in the morning. Oh well.. you live and you learn.
But if you do ever find yourself on a morning train to Bordeaux, watching the sun rise over the windmills and just need to forget about the world, here are a few songs to keep you company:
nr 1 CRASH INTO ME – Dave Matthews Band
nr 2 LET IT GO – James Bay
nr 3 INTO THE WILD – Lewis Watson
nr 4 THE LONGER THE WAITING – Anna Ternheim, David Ferguson
nr 5 TO HELL WITH THE WORLD – David Ford
nr 6 SO YOU DO - Hoffmaestro
nr 7 DARK SIDE – Polly Paulusma
nr 8 IN THE HEARTS OF MEN – First Aid Kit
nr 9 FLIPPER GIRL – The Lumineers
nr 10 CRUCIFY YOUR MIND - Rodriguez
nr 11 YOU PICKED ME – A Fine Frenzy
nr 12 SOUND OF SILENCE - Simon & Garfunkle
